Intensive training

Intensive Training is a complex concept based on musculoskeletal and neuromotor rehabilitation, consisting of one or two hours of therapy per day, tailored to individual needs. The treatment always starts with setting of therapeutic goals which are defined by the professional team of Borsóház together with the family concerned during the first suitable consultation.

In each case, we proceed at an individualised pace, adapted to the individual situation, within our training methodology. Our aim is to facilitate movement and to teach and develop movement patterns in a way that promotes the higher organisation of the nervous system, facilitating the locomotor system in action.

In Intensive Training, we work in pre-defined 1-2 week cycles, setting annual goals, repeating the therapy every 1-2 months as needed. In addition to a personal approach, a combination of methods ensures that progress is maximised.

During the training, therapists also use special tools such as TheraSuit and MedMate therapeutic garments, the suspension grid, the Spider, Kinesiotape, special shoes and orthopaedic devices. Therapists also incorporate elements of CP specific sensory integration therapy, hand therapy, vision development, somato-motor development, among others. Fun, playful exercises, songs, songs, rhythmic sayings make the work easier.

Intense Training can be used to treat congenital or traumatic neurological injuries, accidental injuries and strokes. This type of intensive movement therapy is recommended from a very young age and is an effective solution for delayed or arrested movement development, during the preparatory and rehabilitation period for orthopaedic or special neurosurgical interventions involving the locomotor system.

The effects of Intensive Training:

  • overall increase in muscle strength
  • normalisation of muscle tone
  • activation of muscle function
  • improvement in the range of motion of narrowed joints
  • improvement and development of posture, head and trunk control
  • reduction in over-movements, involuntary movements
  • general improvement in balance and body awareness
  • the development of movement initiation skills
  • improvement in motor coordination
  • improved performance of active and dynamic movements
  • prevention of secondary and tertiary deformities and dysfunctions
Secondary effects:
  • stimulation of the cardiovascular system
  • improved oxygenation of the brain
  • increase the ability of blood vessels to transport oxygen and nutrients
  • an increase in lung capacity
  • improved functioning of vital organs
  • reducing the risk of complications in the respiratory and digestive tract
  • improvement in intellectual functioning

During Intensive Training we use a number of specific tools.

TheraSuit

The TheraSuit is a dynamic aid that supports the body's position sense, improves posture and strengthens muscles. It is used in a programme of intensive exercises. This soft orthosis is specifically designed for children and adults with brain injury, delayed motor development and traumatic musculoskeletal problems. The basic garment consists of a vest and a pelvic and knee section. The different coloured garments are available in different sizes. The rubber cords attached to the garment in different directions help to achieve the desired effect. It is a therapeutic garment that requires skill and practice to use.

TheraSuit stabilises, supports, provides resistance, facilitates, stimulates, proprioceptive stimulus, corrects. Because the suit provides a continuous stimulus to the vestibular system, it acts on muscles, joints and ligaments - helping them to process and integrate stimuli - and thereby generating a response in the brain, affecting balance, coordination, large movements and fine motor skills.

The purpose of using the suit:

  • developing proprioception (deep perception)
  • developing functional movement patterns
  • restoring muscle balance
  • increase muscle strength
  • developing balance and coordination

Contraindications to development with TheraSuit:

  • Hip dislocation
  • 50 Hip subluxation greater than %
  • Scoliosis (scoliosis)

Relative contraindications:

  • 50 Hip subluxation less than %
  • Severe osteoporosis (osteoporosis), various bone diseases
  • High blood pressure
  • Epilepsy, diabetes, kidney problems

The garment is not used for children under 3 years of age due to the child's body structure and the immaturity of the skeletal system. In such cases we use other devices. Intensive Training can be started earlier, this period includes the preparation for the TheraSuit.

MedMate

The MedMate therapeutic suit is a special, dynamic orthosis that improves posture, corrects the position of the trunk and limbs, helps to align them, without hindering freedom of movement. It is a useful aid in therapies and can also be used at home.
A self-developed device, custom-made and made to measure, children and adults can have their own MedMate. We can teach you how to use it at home.

Suspension grid therapy as part of Intensive Training

The treatment allows the limbs to be moved without strain, mobilising the joints and stretching the muscles, helping to initiate active movement. The method is ideal for various diseases of the spine, joints, muscles, muscle tone disorders caused by neurological problems, rehabilitation after accidents and musculoskeletal surgery.

Hand therapy, conductive and cognitive development, manual therapies, sensory integration, occupational therapy, etc. can be part of the Intensive Training or can be complemented by a 4-5 hour daily complex programme.
The programme should always be individually defined with the therapists in the field.

At Borsóház we welcome all patients with disabilities and multiple disabilities, regardless of age. Patients who have had their first appropriate therapeutic consultation and have been fully informed about the therapies are eligible for treatment.
